Software Updates - Adobe & Microsoft

Microsoft Office 2016 & Windows 10

Microsoft Office 2016 for Mac and Windows has been released. Compatibility with all enterprise features is being tested. Faculty and staff Mac users are encouraged to update university-owned workstations due to the many improvements over Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac. Windows users can also upgrade, but the changes are not as significant.

General university classrooms in Bond Hall will be upgraded to the Windows 8.1 operating system over the coming break. Resources for transition to the new operating system will be available.

Five Reasons to Create an Office 365 Group for your Project Team or Committee

All WWU employees are on at least one email distribution list at Western, and you have probably seen them in Outlook's Global Address List (anything that begins with a "grp" prefix). Employees can request these lists using an e-Sign form. In the past, the manager of a distribution list could edit that list's membership using the Outlook address book.

WordPress @ Western

WordPress has landed at Western! WebTech and ATUS have partnered to bring the popular web publishing platform, WordPress, to everyone at Western. This new tool is geared to anyone wishing to create personal blogs, portfolios, or websites. WebTech is also deploying WordPress as a solution for non-academic department sites.

Introducing 3D Printing to the STC

The Student Technology Center (STC) is excited to be introducing 3D printing this winter. Through a grant from the Student Technology Fee, we've purchased three printers and two scanners. The printers use a form of additive manufacturing to write fine layers of plastic. The STC will be using PLA plastic which produces non-toxic fumes and is biodegradable. The 3D scanners attach to an iPad providing a handheld, mobile tool for scanning objects both large and small.
